Description

The EDIX Libre is a fully treeless dressage saddle featuring a distinctive deep seat, uniquely shaped saddle flaps, and an adjustable velcro-based knee blocks. Thanks to its soft, pressure-distributing layers and flexible structure, the saddle fully follows the horse’s movements, enhancing both comfort and communication between horse and rider.

The EDIX Libre dressage saddle is approved for official KNHS dressage competitions.

Structure

The EDIX Libre saddle consists of two main components:

  • Upper structure (the saddle itself): Made from supple yet durable nubuck leather and equipped with the EDIX® MPDS (multi pressure distribution system), which features multiple soft, flexible layers for optimal weight and pressure distribution.

  • Lower structure (special 8-pocket saddle pad): Optimizes fit further, depending on the horse’s conformation.

The adjustable pommel (available with or without horn) and cantle are easy to interchange. The pommel is made of ultralight fiberglass, while the cantle consists of high-density foam. Together, they provide stability to the saddle, while the MPDS system ensures spinal clearance.

The Libre saddle comes with interchangeable knee rolls in different sizes (small, medium, large), which can be easily repositioned using velcro. It is also possible to ride without knee rolls.

Benefits for the Horse

  • Fully treeless and extremely lightweight, reducing strain on the back

  • Full range of motion due to the saddle's lateral and diagonal flexibility

  • Spinal clearance ensured by the MPDS system in combination with a well-fitting pad

  • Supports muscle development, even in horses with swayback or asymmetry

  • Adapts to physical changes due to growth, training, or age

Benefits for the Rider

  • Deep, comfortable seat promotes correct position

  • Adjustable cantle and knee rolls provide tailored support

  • Saddle flexibility supports a relaxed and independent seat

  • Lightweight and easy to tack up

  • Enhances subtle communication and contact with the horse

  • 2-year warranty on construction

Availability

The EDIX Libre saddle is available in black and brown, in sizes S-15", M-17.5", and L-19".

The saddle features a long saddle flap and a medium-deep seat as standard.

Due to the unique construction and adaptability of the saddle, EDIX recommends purchasing in consultation with an authorized EDIX dealer or saddle fitter. They can advise on the correct fit, knee roll positioning, and padding adjustments.

EDIX strongly recommends combining the Libre saddle with a matching EDIX 8-pocket saddle pad. These pads are specifically designed for treeless saddles and provide additional pressure distribution and adaptability. The six smaller top pockets are suitable for foam or felt shims to fine-tune the saddle's balance, while the two large lower pockets accommodate pressure-distributing felt inserts.

We advise regularly checking the resilience of the used inserts, especially with intensive use. Replacement inserts in various materials are available separately.

Choosing the right girth is just as important as c Choosing the right girth is just as important as choosing the right saddle!

Every horse is built differently, and understanding your horse's girth groove can make a huge difference in saddle stability, comfort, and freedom of movement.

🐴 Neutral Girth Groove (image 1)
A neutral girth groove is located approximately a hand's width behind the elbow and directly beneath the center of the saddle. This creates a balanced position with minimal forward or backward pull on the saddle.
✔️ Best choice: Straight or anatomical girths.

🐴 Forward Girth Groove (image 2)
Common in horses with a short ribcage and a deep, round barrel, such as many draft-type horses. The girth groove sits close behind the elbow, causing the girth (and often the saddle) to be pulled forward.
✔️ Best choice: Crescent-shaped girths, designed to keep the saddle in its correct position.

🐴 Backward Girth Groove (image 3)
Often seen in horses with a longer ribcage and an upward-sloping underline, such as many Thoroughbreds and sport horses. The girth groove sits further back, creating more backward pull on the saddle.
✔️ Best choice: A very lightly shaped girth, allowing the saddle to remain balanced without excessive backward pressure.

Finding the right girth isn't about choosing the most popular option, it's about choosing the one that matches your horse's unique conformation. The right combination of saddle and girth helps improve stability, comfort, and overall performance for both horse and rider 🤎
